A fossil shell trapped within a rock. It was formed maybe a 100 million years ago. A friend gave it to me 35 years ago when we were on a Geology field trip. I couldn’t be lieve he did so, as it such a wonderrful piece; he was very kind. It is from the place where I was born and grew up. The creature that was in shell was also born and gew up in the same place, The fossil itself and the Greensand around it was also formed in the same place, in a sort of way. I see it every day as I descend my stairs. It is very much part of my life. And a stable part, as it will never change. It will always be the same. It’s been with me for most of my life and it will stay with me until me death. Where will it go after my death? How long will it last? No one can say. There is a permanency that goes back and forward in time, and beyond our imaginations. The time it will spend with me is just a blink of an eye.
